- PhD Title: Improved combustion characteristics of faecal sludge derived char as a sustainable alternative to wood charcoal.
- Year of Completion: 2026

PhD Overview
My work investigates methods to improve the combustion properties of faecal sludge-derived char as a sustainable alternative to traditional wood charcoal. By converting and systematically analysing faecal sludge and other high-ash biomass feedstocks—such as sewage sludge and water hyacinth—using thermal technologies like pyrolysis and hydrothermal carbonisation, I aim to optimise fuel quality and energy yield. Furthermore, through a combined experimental and life cycle analysis approach, I explore alternative applications of FS char, such as carbon sequestration and activated char use, offering a holistic interpretation of the most environmentally sustainable, economically viable, and practically scalable waste-to-energy solution.

About Me
Apart from my PhD research, I serve as a STEM Education Outreach Fellow at the University of Leeds. Furthermore, I recently received a travel award to Nepal from Soroptimist International, a volunteering organisation for women, to join Nepal’s Total Sanitation Project as a volunteer for a month. Both roles enabling me to make science inclusive and impactful through community outreach and empowerment.
