PhD Overview

Glaciers are retreating faster than was predicted, which impacting water security in mountain regions worldwide. My research focuses on the assessment of the potential impacts of glacier retreat on water quality of freshwater ecosystems in the Bolivian Andes. The postdoc research encompasses a broad range of activities applied in field work campaigns in glacier streams, and laboratory analysis to quantify trace metals in water samples. The research might also prevent harm to human health and aquatic ecosystems in vulnerable regions to climate change. With the outputs I plan to inform water conservation measures useful for policy makers and local communities.

Sustainability Goals

  • Clean Water and Sanitation
  • Climate Action
  • Life on Land

About Me

Dr. Estefania Quenta is passionate about mountains and freshwater ecosystems. She is postdoctoral fellow at the Imperial College London awarded by the Schlumberger Foundation. As a woman scientist from a developing country where there is barely support to scientists, she was able to keep going in her career thanks to various fellowships that she has received. She dedicates her time to inspire young students to save water and continue their studies.
